All About Siren Pils

It’s new beer release day. But it’s not just any new beer that we’re releasing today. For one, it’s a new Lager Beer. For two, it’s the crispiest lager beer that’s ever donned a Siren tank. For three, it’s a lager beer that we’d love to become a part of our range for a long, long time. Say hello to Siren Pils, and read on to learn a few of its secrets…

The News

Siren Pils is now available in 330ml cans and ready to pour on tap in your favourite pubs.

This is a brand new lager recipe from us, after literally years of experimentation and refinement. Over the past ten years, we’ve brewed everything from Italian Pils and Mexican Lagers to Helles, Schwarzbiers and 100-Day specials. We’ve tested, refined, and learned a lot.

We’ve been working out what we like in the styles, how we can get the most out of ingredients, what resonates best with our customers, and fundamentally, what a Siren lager should be in 2025.

Siren Pils now takes on the mantle from Pastel Pils as our all-round, go-to Pilsner. It mixes tradition with modernity, finds the optimum balances of temperature and time, and hits the sweet spot between accessibility and delicious, subtle flavours.

When we were invited to pour it amongst esteemed company at Birrifficio Italiano’s Pride Pils Festival (the home of the Italian Pilsner, no less), we knew we were onto something. Now, after taste tests at the likes of the Great British Food Festival, and selling double the amount forecasted at London Coffee Festival (thank you to everyone involved in the emergency Friday afternoon delivery) it’s time for the cans to meet the… hands.*

A Deep Dive Into Siren Pils

Accessibility vs Nuance

We want our Flagship Lager to be interesting to everyone. Whether it’s the first taste of an independently made pilsner for your best mate, or the crispness you’re looking for mid-sesh at your favourite craft beer festival, we know it needs to hit the spot. Our lager is gluten-free, and suitable for celiacs, so no worries there. It’s also unfiltered and vegan friendly. Most importantly, it’s a refreshing and beautifully drinking lager, suitable for any occasion. You’ll notice fresh, floral aromas, and notes of lemon, tangerine and soft fruits. It’s bright, clean and crisp.

Heritage vs Modern

We’re calling Siren Pils a ‘Modern Lager’. That description is born out of the modern tips and tricks we’re using in the process, but also for our hop selection. We’re very lucky to be sourcing our Callista and Spalter Select hops directly from a farm in Germany. That means consistent, vibrant and aromatic hops to contribute the flavour, aroma and bitterness synonymous with Pils.

But there’s a nod to the past, too. Weyermann’s Barke is heritage Pilsner Malt, known for making premium flavourful, bright lager beers. Hey, if it’s good enough for Augustiner, it’s good enough for us. “What about the yeast, Siren?!” Thank you for asking. It’s our own, house strain lager yeast, developed from a traditional German strain, that offers a great balance of floral and fruity aroma.

Time vs Temperature

You may already know that the word “Lager” comes from the German word, literally translating as ‘to store’**. The maturation, or ‘cellaring’ time is perhaps its defining secret. While we’ll always be generous and patient with our cellaring, we’ve also been working on finding the ideal amount of time. We experimented with varying maturation times in the pandemic (y’know the whole ‘no pubs’ thing), but have pushed it to the extreme with recent ‘Times Ten’ and ‘Times Eleven’ 100+ day lagers. What we’ve learned is that temperature is also hugely important. We get Siren Pils as cold as possible, as quickly as possible in the process. As soon as our primary fermentation is complete, we’re down to 0 degrees. It’s all designed to deliver clean, crisp flavour.

Where To Find Siren Pils

Don’t worry - you won’t have to look far. Alongside pouring at both our flagship Reading bar and brewery Tap Room in Finchampstead, Siren Pils will remain a permanent fixture on our online webshop, available as single cans as well as in multi-pack bundles. This beer is also already popping up across the nation in pubs and venues.

Siren Pils is pouring at the iconic Porterhouse in Covent Garden, right now. If you're around on June 11th, we'll be down to help the team launch the new beer with three other Siren beers pouring - definitely join us for this one. The beer will also be pouring in Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell throughout June, a wonderful opportunity to try a first pour of our newest beer in the very first site we were ever poured.

That's just the start of Siren Pils in some major venues. Can't see it on at your local? Give them a nudge!
